Tuhau (Etlingera coccinea) Sabahan food
WEEK 12 ~
Tuhau (Etlingera coccinea)
Hey, guys did you ever heard about this kind of food ? Tuhau very popular among the people of the Kadazan Dusun, Tuhau derived from stem bunga kantan.
Tuhau made pickles to be eaten with rice. The taste is very delicious when mixed with vinegar and chili. Maybe some people do not like it because
it smelled strongly like insects, but for me it is my favorite food. In my village, this plant is very easy to find and there is also grown in home gardens. The process is also easy to find, the skin should be peeled before being chopped.
My younger sister was diligently looking for Tuhau |

Butod !! Yummy ...! heheh Butod, which is more commonly known as Sago worm. In Kadazandusun language, we called it Butod huuu Do you dare to touch it ?? I guess no, haha So if you are an adventurer, you may like to visit to Sabah and try this kind of food. Don't worry it's not danger for your health. I have tried it once, but that was already cooked. It was like milk and oily. Their skin was so chewy, delicious taste. I've never tried to eat them alive, maybe I'll try it later. My uncle dare eat them alive. He said it tasted better if it had not been cooked. He taste it with sambal belacan. Yummy ! woww .. In my village, people like them and they like if it had not been cooked. however, the process is a little bit difficult to find.
